Hop blog “Squirrels Gone Nutz” July

Hello everyone !

These little dragons couldn’t wait until winter for the holidays so they decided to celebrate in July ! Ornements in the palm trees, funny hats, presents … Let the good times roll !

Welcome to our monthly hop blog called the Squirrels Gone Nutz. If you are new to it, each month we have to make a project with supplies we don’t use enough. There is a theme and/or a technique and type of supply. This month it’s “Christmas in July” and “Acetate”.

For this month theme, I quickly thought about this cute dragon decorating a palm tree I never had the chance to use. And I like to try new thing for the hop so I decided to try to make a box card. I also found the perfect companions for this cute dragons. They are supposed to play in the snow but it was easy to turn snow to sand.

So first, I printed the dragon with the palm tree on my Xpress-it blending card. I colored it and the main scene with my markers. I cut a rectangle.

After that, I printed the two other dragons and colored them. I used two slimline border dies to cut around them. So, I had two strips with my dragons.

After that, I started to make my box.

I made you a plan with the measurement and took photos :

First, I glued the side parts onto the main rectangle.

Then, I glued the front part onto the side parts.

As you can see, it can fold flat to fit in an envelope.

After that, I matted and layered my colored panel with a bigger blue rectangle. I also cut and glued a piece of my kraft cardstock on the bottom. This part won’t be visible but it makes a cleaner finish when you see the card from different angles. I did the same with my two strips with the other dragons.

Then, I glued my panel on the base of my card.

I also glued the two stripes on the base making sure the card was still able to fold.

After that, I cut blue pieces fitting the front and the sides of the cards. I also cut the same pieces into pattern acetate ( you thought I forgot the acetate, didn’t you ? ).

Finally, I used my We R Memory Keeper words punch to write my sentiement into kraft cardstock. I glued it with foam pad on the front of my card;
