Hop blog “Squirrels Gone Nutz” November

Hello everyone

Welcome to our monthly hop blog called the Squirrels Gone Nutz.

If you are new to it, each month we have to make a project with supplies we don’t use enough. There is a theme and/or a technique and type of supply. This month it’s “Vellum” and “Holidays”.

So welcome to the new hoppers and for my regular viewers, thank you for stopping by today!

If you are hopping you should come from the blog of Marie and after me, I invite you to hop to the blog of Anna.

Exceptionally, (I think some squirrels from this hop are rubbing off on me ) I made two cards for this Hop. I started with the one with the big snowflake and came with the idea for the second when I was still making the first one. I used similar products to make them.

Let’s start with the … second card !

So, this month was about Vellum, and to be honest I barely have any ! Luckily, I have a never used small pack of pattern vellum I had in a Crafter’s Companion mystery bag a while ago. They are foiled with fancy patterns and I thought it was a great fit for Holidays theme cards. I also decided to use some specialty papers I barely touched and some dies from the Crafter’s Companion Watercolor Christmas collection I bought a few months back and that I inaugurated for this hop.

Once I had the design in my mind, it was an easy card to assemble !

First, for the base of my card, I took two of my specialty papers, cut them into two squares and matted and layered them.

After that, I used my stitched circle die into my vellum paper. I glued it on the base of my card.

Then, I cut two smaller circles into the same papers as my card base. I put foams pad behind them (the lighter blue is higher than the darkest one) and glued them on my vellum.

After that, I die cut my sentiment into my Silver Silk paper and glued it on my circles.

Finally, I die cut my snowflakes into my vellum pattern paper and my light blue cardstock. I added some Nuvo Stone Drop on their middle. I think it’s the first time I had the chance to use my Stone drops, their textures worked great with the rest of the card. I glued the snowflakes on my card. This one was done !

Now, let’s talk about the first card I made.

I wanted to use this big snowflake I have and barely used. I cut it a first time into the Silver Silk cardstock. Alone, it was a little bit too flat, so I die cut it another time into one of the pattern vellum of my pack. I rotated it and glued it on the silver one. For the center piece I die cut an other smaller snowflake into the Silver Silk paper and I glued it in the middle with foam pads. To finish it, I used my Belgium Bluestone Nuvo Drop on it.

I kept the rest of the card simple as the big snowflake was busy enough.

So, I matted and layered three squares cut into my different specialty papers, and I added to lines of ribbons. Finally, I glued my snowflake in the middle.

May the craft be with you !
